Student registrations for the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” program in Dehradun crossed the 2.5 lakh mark, far exceeding the 50,000 expected by the Congress party leaders in Dehradun.

The Congress leader arrived here on Friday evening, four and a half years after the last assembly elections in 2022.

Even as Rahul Gandhi’s much-talked-about programme, “Chhatron Ki Goonj,” an interaction with students and youths, had yet to start when the report was filed, over 2.5 lakh students had registered for the event amid massive rainfall.

Although Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal and other party leaders expected a gathering of around 50,000 youths and students at Bannu School Ground in Dehradun, the online registration count for the function crossed 2.5 lakh. Interestingly, Congress leaders in Dehradun informed that the figure also included youth and students from other states.

Uttarakhand PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said, “Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Dehradun after a gap of nearly four and a half years has attracted massive enthusiasm from students eager to participate in the program. His address to the students is a call for the country to fight for the rights of the youth and the students. This program will be historic and a big jolt for the ruling BJP and its governments at the centre and in Uttarakhand.”

PCC chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni shared that students from other states have shown interest in joining the program. It will will send a message to the BJP’s Central leadership. She said although exact number of the registrations is yet to come, it has crossed 2.5 lakh mark online.

Notably, in Chhatron Ki Goonj, Gandhi was to focus mainly on paper leakages in examinations like, NEET and other recruitments in Uttarakhand. His interactions in Dehradun will also set the tone for 2027 assembly polls in the state and the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
